TODAY'S REFLECTION - TUESDAY- 10TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME
St. John of Sahagun, Confessor
1 Kings 17:7-16/ Psalm 4:2-5,7-8/ Matthew 5:13-16
LET YOUR GOODNESS BE VISIBLE
Beloved, because of the truth, obedience to God and zeal for God's work, the prophet Elijah's life was in danger. He had to flee for his dear life, when he reprimanded king Ahab for his evil ways. God took care of Elijah through ravens (1Kings 17:6) and through a widow (1 Kings 17:9). God rewarded the generosity of the widow. Her jar of little oil and flour did not go empty. Some of us are so greedy, mean, selfish, narrow-minded and wicked. We calculate how much we are giving away or what we share with others as a waste. The spiritual nourishment we get from God sustains us throughout life. It is God who helps us to get what we think we have. He determines how to increase it for us or take it away from us. Whatever God gives us should not be hoarded, but be used for the common good. Let us stop being greedy. We should learn to share.
Friends, Jesus teaches us about the worth and usage of salt and light. Salt is an example of purity. It preserves, it gives flavour, etc. Light brightens. A Christian should be pure, give flavour, preserve and shine forth. The faith and goodness in us should benefit others in the world. Our Christianity should not only be shown inside the four corners of our Church building. We are not to be " angels" inside the Church/within the Church premises and be " devils " outside. Once a person of light in the Church, always a person of light everywhere: at home, office, work place, community, etc. Let us pray for the grace to totally rely on God and trust in Him despite the challenges. He will take care of us. We should continue to let our light shine, always and everywhere. Our goodness should be seen and felt. Our lives are to taste sweet and shine forth brightly. BE BLESSED.
