Lord Jesus I need your presence in my life. Your presence is so sweet because you are a sweet Lord. When I rose from bed this morning, I felt so lonely, I felt so fearful because of all the difficulties I faced yesterday. I felt so uncertain about what was going to happen today.

Review of previous day's events

Early in the morning

Ok, Lord, let’s review some of the things that happened yesterday. When I woke up in the morning, my children came to me for school fees. I gave a sigh because my pocket was running dry, but I had to give it anyway. When I was about to take my children to school I noticed that the fuel tank of my car was almost empty. Another sigh, but I bought the fuel anyway. After I took my children to school and came back, my wife told me that our gas for cooking was exhausted and we needed to refill. This time I just didn’t give a sigh, but I complained, ”Oh Lord! So I have to buy gas too?!!. What a bad morning!. But at that moment, I heard this song coming from my neighbour’s house: Let the rain of your presence fall on me:

Then I remembered how the presence of the Lord could change my life, and so I sang along, and all of a sudden my heart was filled with joy and my worries just disappeared. Lord, that was your presence. It was so sweet, so soothing, I didn’t want to go to work. I just wanted to be in it forever. I started to think how the apostles must have felt that they did not want to come down from the mount of transfiguration (Matthew 17:1-4).

On the way to work

Well, but I had to go to work because you reminded me that working hard, diligently and seriously was one of your desires. With my heart full of joy, in spite of my problems, I left for work. As I was on my way to work something happened. You know all these careless motorbike riders. One of them crossed me and nearly involved me in an accident. I was so furious that I started insulting him in my heart, because by then he had gone. Then I remembered that song, and as I began to sing it again, your presence filled my heart and I smiled and said, “Lord forgive me  for insulting that guy”. Lord, I really felt that you forgave me. What sweetness I felt in your presence.

At the work place

You took me safely to the work place but the problems continued. Lord you remember I asked you a question why it is that problems in my life never come to an end. I was really upset. I know a few of the possible reasons why my problems are never-ending but I just don’t know which of them, and whether it is even in the list. Well, Lord I don’t expect you to answer that question, but I trust you. I know that whatever you are doing is for my good as you said through the prophet Jeremiah (Jeremiah 29:11).

What happened and I was so upset? My boss just gave his secretary the day off to attend a friend’s birthday party, and added all her work to mine. How can I finish all this work? It looks like there is something going on between my boss and his secretary, and it appears my boss doesn’t like me much. Now you understand why I was so upset.

I heard a little voice speaking to me (that was you Lord, I knew it), “I Love you.” I knew it was you because the voice was so sweet and so soothing. Then I remembered that song again and said, “Lord fill me with your presence” and began to sing the song. What peace and calm did I not feel in my heart? Aaahhh, your presence!

You know there were other little problems at the work site but I don’t want to say everything now.

On my way back home

When I closed from work and was going back home I said to myself, “I’m now going home to rest.” I thought my problems for the day were finished. How wrong I was.

I normally should get home around 6pm but I got home around 9pm. Lord, you know what happened. But let me remind you in case you have forgotten (you know you have so many people’s problems to solve-this is just my thinking oo…). I had a flat tyre on the way. When it happened I said, “Lord! Again?!!” Now, at the place where the flat tyre occurred there was not mobile phone service, so I couldn’t call anybody. I was lucky to get one passerby to help me fix the problem. You know now armed robbers use all sorts of tricks to rob people, so no one was willing to risk helping me. Lord, let me tell you the truth, I was actually angry with you so I did not invite your presence into my life, and I remained angry and upset till I got home.

Back at home

You think that was the last problem for the day? You are mistaken. Because I delayed so much but didn’t call my wife she was very angry with me. She even started suspecting that I was seeing another woman (you know she is the very sensitive and fragile type). That started a quarrel between us. That song came back to my head and I started singing. My wife who was shouting at me calmed down and eventually joined me in singing the song. After singing the song she told me she was sorry for being so harsh on me.

Lord, you know when the car broke down I never asked for your presence. Lord, I’m sorry for being angry with you. I punished myself because I didn’t experience your presence at that moment. At that moment I thought the man who helped me fix the car was just a matter of luck, but now I realize that it was you who sent him. Thank you, Lord (I never thanked you for it).

After my wife apologized, I felt that peace, that sweetness again.

Grand finale

Lord this is the reason why when I woke up this morning I felt afraid. But that song…? It is good that it keeps 'haunting' me. I started singing it while asking you to fill my heart with your presence. Then I began to lose the fear. The fear began being replaced by a sense of confidence, a sense of freedom, a sense of ability, a sense of achievement, a sense of love. Oh Lord!. How empty I felt without your presence!!!

As I was driving to work, I began to wonder how people survive without your presence. They must be awfully lonely!!!

If you want the presence of Jesus in your life, give your life to him.

Prayer

Lord  Jesus, I thank you for my life; for taking care of me every day. All the times I have failed to acknowledge your care, forgive me Lord. I now thank you for all of them. Lord Jesus, I declare my commitment to you today to ask for your presence in every situation of my life. Lord,  fill me with your presence at this moment, I thank you Lord in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Respect dignities

When we despise dominion and speak evil of dignities we break the divine pattern and bring a tide of curse upon ourselves and those under our care. As those under our authority behold how we treat those in authority over us, they will become fuelled by the same spirit and start to treat us in a similar manner. Once this spirit enters into a community, that community will burst apart at some point fracturing along personality lines. This is the... Read more>>>

The world is more than rotten The world has changed completely into what I can’t describe. Will I say rotten? Oh no, it will be an understatement. Some youth say, “We are in the 21st century.” Some also say, “We are the future leaders.” Other youth say, “We are civilised.” Still, others say, “Computer children.” Indeed this twenty-first century has changed. Things are now upside down, which has made the road to righteousness very rough for the youth and difficult to... Read more>>>

Is the Bible the Final Authority?

This article has been inspired by the conflict that exists within Christianity mainly due to the interpretation of the bible (the genuine cases). First of all it is important for us to understand the place of the bible in Christianity before we can properly apply it to Christian spirituality. This article seeks to use the dealings of God with his people Israel, the dealings of Jesus and the apostles with the early Christians, the bible itself and common sense to... Read more>>>
