TODAY'S REFLECTION- WEDNESDAY- 9TH WEEK- ORDINARY TIME
St. Norbert, bishop, religious founder
2Tim 1:1-3,6-12/Ps 122:1-2/ Mk 12:18-27
HE IS GOD OF THE LIVING
Beloved, St. Paul acknowledged his call to be an apostle as an honour and the will of God. He considered his call as a privilege, which goes with responsibilities. St. Paul therefore reminds Timothy, his coworker, a young bishop, to fan into a flame the gift that God gave him. Timothy, was urged to have courage, love, self-discipline and should be loyal to the Gospel. This definitely was not going to be easy without the grace of God. Those called by God are given the necessary grace to function.
Friends, in our yesterday's Gospel reading, the Pharisees and the Herodians tried to catch Jesus with a question on whether to pay taxes to Caesar or not. Today, it is the turn of the Sadducees, who don't believe in the resurrection of the dead. They created heaven in the image of earth, by presenting the case of seven brothers who married one woman successively (levirate marriage). Jesus used the opportunity to reaffirm the truth of the resurrection of the dead. The mother of the Maccabees encouraged her sons at the moment of their martyrdom by reminding them of the resurrection of the dead (2 Maccabees 7:23). Job was consoled to an extent when he said he knows his Redeemer lives and that he shall see God (Job 19:25-26). St. Paul says if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised. If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain (1 Corinthians 15:13-14). We should nurture our hope of seeing God on the day of resurrection. Let us pray for the grace to carry out our responsibilities properly as people called by God. We also pray for the grace to believe in the resurrection of the dead and live our lives on earth accordingly. BE BLESSED.
