Progress

We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive. C. S. Lewis

Nonsense questions

Can a mortal ask questions which God finds unanswerable? Quite easily, I should think. All nonsense questions are unanswerable. C. S. Lewis

Money is not enough

Let us not be satisfied with just giving money. Money is not enough, money can be got, but they need your hearts to love them. So, spread your love everywhere you go. Mother Teresa

We must be hatched

It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad. C. S. Lewis

Our heart is not quiet until it rests in…

Thou hast created us for Thyself, and our heart is not quiet until it rests in Thee. Saint Augustine

The wisest man alive

I am the wisest man alive, for I know one thing, and that is that I know nothing. Socrates

A man of courage

He is a man of courage who does not run away, but remains at his post and fights against the enemy. Socrates

Men should wonder at themselves

Men go abroad to wonder at the heights of mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long courses of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motions of the stars, and they pass by themselves without wondering. Saint Augustine

The souls of the righteous are immortal …

All men's souls are immortal, but the souls of the righteous are immortal and divine. Socrates

There is God

I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die to find out there isn't, than live my life as if there isn't and die to find out there is. Albert Camus

Make me an instrument of thy peace

Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Francis of Assisi

Believe that you may understand

Seek not to understand that you may believe, but believe that you may understand. Saint Augustine

Humility, the foundation

Humility is the foundation of all the other virtues hence, in the soul in which this virtue does not exist there cannot be any other virtue except in mere appearance. Saint Augustine

The richest

He is richest who is content with the least, for content is the wealth of nature. Socrates

He that is evil is a slave

He that is kind is free, though he is a slave; he that is evil is a slave, though he be a king. Saint Augustine

God's love

God loves each of us as if there were only one of us. Saint Augustine

Concerns of animal life

We are certainly in a common class with the beasts; every action of animal life is concerned with seeking bodily pleasure and avoiding pain. Saint Augustine

Our life of poverty

Our life of poverty is as necessary as the work itself. Only in heaven will we see how much we owe to the poor for helping us to love God better because of them. Mother Teresa

Affection

Affection is responsible for nine-tenths of whatever solid and durable happiness there is in our lives. C. S. Lewis

Man lives as to make happiness impossibl…

Indeed, man wishes to be happy even when he so lives as to make happiness impossible. Saint Augustine

TODAY'S REFLECTION - THURSDAY-12TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME
St. Irenaeus, bishop martyr, Apostolic Father of the Church
2 Kings 24:8-17/ Psalm 78:1-5,8-9/ Matthew 7:21-29

WHAT A DESTRUCTION!
Beloved, today, Holy Mother Church celebrates the memorial of St. Irenaeus. His name means "lover of peace". He brought peace into the Church. He was a disciple of St. Polycarp. He succeeded in gaining many new converts to the faith. He rebuilt many Churches. He wrote a lot to defend the Church, especially, against Gnosticism. He died a martyr's death under the persecution of Septimus Severus.

In the history of the people of Israel, there were times some of the rulers/leaders, helped the people to get closer to God. Other times, they lived lives displeasing to God. If we take the kingdom of Judah, king Hezekiah relied on God during his reign ( 2 Kings Chapters 18 to 20). King Manasseh was an apostate (2 Kings 21:1-18). King Josiah made some good reforms ( 2 Kings 22:1-23:25). During the reign of King Jehoiachin, they persistently and knowingly/deliberately disobeyed God. This led to a tragic defeat and deportation by King Nebuchadnezzar, to Babylon. How am I living my life now? How am I leading the people under me? Will that lead to a blessing from God or a destruction?

Friends, Jesus continues to teach us many important things. He says: ' It is not those who say to me, ' "Lord, Lord", who will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the person who does the will of my Father in heaven' (Matthew 7:21). He encourages us to be wise enough and build our house/faith/ life/ business/marriage/education, etc solidly on rock (the Word of God, the Sacraments, kingdom values, etc),for it to stand strongly compact, no matter what. We should not be foolish to build on sand (corruption, materialism, money, power, idolatry, etc). In order to avoid destruction, we need to listen to the word of God and do what the word of God tells us. We should not only be readers/hearers/listeners/preachers, of the word of God, we should be DOERS of the word of God.

May we live lives pleasing to God, in order not to be destroyed. May we live/do/put into practice, the word of God. May we have a very strong and an unshakable faith in God. BE BLESSED.

Do miracles still happen in the Catholic…

The answer to the question of whether miracles still happen in the Catholic Church has always raised follow-up questions in my mind. Yes, I know that miracles still happen in the Catholic Church, but if so why are so many Catholics still into idolatry, consulting gods and mallams everywhere at the sight of any small problem? Why do many Catholics not hear about these miracles? How important are miracles in the Catholic Church and in our relationship with God? I believe that... Read more>>>

Prevailing prayers

Greetings My dear brothers and sisters, I greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, the author and finisher of our faith and the sustainer of all living beings. Today I want us to look at the subject of prayer and its place in the life of a believer. What is prayer? Prayer is a communication, and the kind that takes place between God and the believer. In fact prayer is the meeting point between divinity and... Read more>>>

Teacher: Felix Dordaa Mahama Text: {bib=Judith 5:17-21} What if I were God? Would I be able to forgive the many wrongs that people do, even after they confess? {bib=Matthew 13:44-46} Have you ever fallen in love? Do you remember when the phone rang and he or she was on the other end? Your heart fluttered with excitement. You couldn’t wait to see your loved one again. However, the romantic attraction you’ve ever had is nothing compared to the way Jesus loves you. You’re always on his mind. To him, you are the “pearl of great price” ({bib=Matthew 13:46}). He gave up everything for your salvation. If only this would... Read more>>>

Auto-panic

It is as if most human beings are configured to be automatically  afraid whenever there are challenges. This auto-panic device makes even some Holy Spirit filled Christians to cry out, complain and wish for a return to their former ways of life when they go through a test.  In fact, when this auto-panic device is activated, it automatically uninstalls any faith application. Therefore, at this stage, anxiety, fear, worry, hopelessness, dejection etc. begin to control such a person. The people of... Read more>>>

Understanding the book of Acts

Analysis of video condemning water baptism for gentiles(Understanding Acts)   It is very helpful to watch the complete video before reading my comments, so that you can have the full picture. Is the Bible the Final Authority?

This article has been inspired by the conflict that exists within Christianity mainly due to the interpretation of the bible (the genuine cases). First of all it is important for us to understand the place of the bible in Christianity before we can properly apply it to Christian spirituality. This article seeks to use the dealings of God with his people Israel, the dealings of Jesus and the apostles with the early Christians, the bible itself and common sense to... Read more>>>

Wrong moral living or wrong moral teachi…

Difference between wrong moral living and wrong moral teachings Some people confuse the two concepts of wrong moral living and wrong moral teaching. If we study scripture carefully, we will realize that right from the beginning God has condemned both wrong moral living and wrong moral teaching. However, we also realized that even so, there has been no period in history when the world has been completely rid of evil or wrong moral living. Abraham, for instance, could not wait patiently for... Read more>>>

The agenda is on - The six stages of soc…

Social Deception very often is a process by which wrong becomes right, and right becomes wrong. It’s a complete paradigm shift of opinions, standards and morals that is achieved softly, subtly and often takes a generation to entrench into society. Those who engineer it are very deliberate and structured in their approach.   If you want to know what I am talking about, find out your mother’s views on things like sexuality and marriage and compare them with yours. The contrast in... Read more>>>

A brief history of the Holy Rosary and h…

What is the rosary? The angel Gabriel’s greeting to Mary, when he came to announce the conception of Jesus, is familiar to most Catholics. It is echoed in one of the most popular Catholic prayers, the Hail Mary (in Latin, Ave Maria): “Hail, [Mary,] favoured one [or ‘full of grace’]! The Lord is with you” (Luke 1:28). The words that follow in that prayer also come from Scripture, from Elizabeth’s greeting to our Lady soon afterward: “Blessed are you among women, and... Read more>>>

Pursue Your Strengths

God has equipped each one of us with specific gifts and talents. It’s up to each of us to identify those gifts and be disciplined enough to develop them. You have to learn to stay in your strength zone. What are you naturally good at? What do you enjoy doing? Take the time to identify your strengths and weaknesses, and as the Scripture says, give yourself to your gifts. In other words, don’t spend all your time trying to improve... Read more>>>
