Intense love does not measure

Intense love does not measure, it just gives. Mother Teresa

God's love

God loves each of us as if there were only one of us. Saint Augustine

A drop in the ocean

We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop. Mother Teresa

People of worth

Worthless people live only to eat and drink; people of worth eat and drink only to live. Socrates

The desire is thy prayers

The desire is thy prayers; and if thy desire is without ceasing, thy prayer will also be without ceasing. The continuance of your longing is the continuance of your prayer. Saint Augustine

Seek to love, not to be loved

Lord, grant that I might not so much seek to be loved as to love. Francis of Assisi

The end of life

The end of life is to be like God, and the soul following God will be like Him. Socrates

Man is a great depth

Who can map out the various forces at play in one soul? Man is a great depth, O Lord. The hairs of his head are easier by far to count than his feeling, the movements of his heart. Saint Augustine

Pride

It was pride that changed angels into devils; it is humility that makes men as angels. Saint Augustine

TODAY'S REFLECTION - FRIDAY- 11TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME
Saints Paulinus of Nola, bishop, John Fisher, bishop and Thomas More, married man, martyr
2 Kings 11:1-4,9-18,20/Psalm 131:11-14,17-18/ Matthew 6:19-23

SET YOUR HEART ON LASTING HEAVENLY TREASURES
Beloved, in our today's first reading, Athaliah, the daughter of Ahab and Jezebel, is behaving like her mother. She wanted her son Ahaziah to become the king of Judah. But unfortunately, he was killed by Jehu (2 Kings 9:27). This made Athaliah (reminding us of "Atta Ayi, the notorious armed robber"), to cruelly usurp the political throne of Judah, after killing the Royal family members. She didn't know Jehosheba had hidden Joash, the king' s son. Athaliah's treasure/ heart was in power, luxury, Baalism and all kinds of evil. These didn't last for her. She was killed within seven years. Today, we remember the bad legacy which she left. Must we kill in order to rule?

Friends, Jesus, in our today's Gospel reading encourages us to think about where to store our treasure. These days, we have a number of flashy, but not durable products. We can also think of people who buried gold, cowries and other valuable things which cannot be traced now. We also remember people who have died with talents, wealth, fat bank accounts, etc and the owners are no more. How much real security can one find in money and power? Don't kingdoms rise and fall? Doesn't money depreciate? We should be mindful of the fact that our talents, virtues, good deeds, character, etc become beneficial, when they are generously shared with others, but not selfishly stored for oneself alone. For Jesus, our generosity in love, will gain us much more interest in hundred fold in heaven. We should not be blind towards the needy around us. We should be conscious of their plight and do something. Good deeds live forever, not money or power. What am I jealously guiding or holding onto? Will it last? Will it help me to inherit eternal life?

Let us pray for those who have killed others or are still planning to kill others in order to be in power. We also pray for the grace to store up our treasure in heaven and put our hearts on lasting heavenly treasure. BE BLESSED.

There is hope

There is hope for a tree that has been cut down; it can come back to life and sprout. Even though its roots grow old, and its stump dies in the ground, with water it will sprout like a young plant. ({bib=Job14:7-9}). Take heart, the Lord of Hosts is still able, the mighty God of wonders is still at work, the rock of ages is gracious and Jehovah Jire is still providing our needs according to his riches in glory in... The Lord tells us that even though we are in the world we do not belong to the world. Through our brother Paul in {bib=Romans 12:2}, He tells us again that we should not conform to the standards of the world. We live in the world everyday; eating, drinking, sleeping, working and interacting with... Read more>>>

I have decided

There is nothing we go through that God does not know. He sees, He feels, He hears and He knows. God knows all the challenges, difficulties and problems His children go through. He is not unconcerned. He is not indecisive about your situation. In fact, God has made a decision to deliver you and He will do it! When the people of Israel were in captivity, it looked as if the Lord had abandoned them. They were in need of deliverance... Read more>>>

A brief history of the Holy Rosary and h…

What is the rosary? The angel Gabriel’s greeting to Mary, when he came to announce the conception of Jesus, is familiar to most Catholics. It is echoed in one of the most popular Catholic prayers, the Hail Mary (in Latin, Ave Maria): “Hail, [Mary,] favoured one [or ‘full of grace’]! The Lord is with you” (Luke 1:28). The words that follow in that prayer also come from Scripture, from Elizabeth’s greeting to our Lady soon afterward: “Blessed are you among women, and... Read more>>>

The different world of blurred future of…

The world is more than rotten The world has changed completely into what I can’t describe. Will I say rotten? Oh no, it will be an understatement. Some youth say, “We are in the 21st century.” Some also say, “We are the future leaders.” Other youth say, “We are civilised.” Still, others say, “Computer children.” Indeed this twenty-first century has changed. Things are now upside down, which has made the road to righteousness very rough for the youth and difficult to... Read more>>>

Understanding the book of Acts

Analysis of video condemning water baptism for gentiles(Understanding Acts)   It is very helpful to watch the complete video before reading my comments, so that you can have the full picture. Someone referred me to this video when we were discussing about baptism. The video claims that water baptism is not required by gentiles for salvation. I have analyzed the video and given my thoughts on it. I would have loved to post my comments directly on youtube, but comments have been disabled... Read more>>>

Do I Need to Forgive Others to be Forgiv…

Dear ..., I hope this writeup meets you in good spirits. Unfortunately, we couldn’t complete the discussion we started, so I decided to put my thoughts together in this writeup for you to study. I hope you read this writeup with an open mind. I referred to Matthew 5:21-24, 38-48, Matthew 6:14,15 and Matthew 18:21ff to make the point that unforgiveness is one of the gravest sins, because it actually prevents your other sins from being forgiven. You challenged that a Christian can’t... Read more>>>

{bib=Matthew 13:44-46} Have you ever fallen in love? Do you remember when the phone rang and he or she was on the other end? Your heart fluttered with excitement. You couldn’t wait to see your loved one again. However, the romantic attraction you’ve ever had is nothing compared to the way Jesus loves you. You’re always on his mind. To him, you are the “pearl of great price” ({bib=Matthew 13:46}). He gave up everything for your salvation. If only this would... Read more>>>

Pursue Your Strengths

Is the Bible the Final Authority?

This article has been inspired by the conflict that exists within Christianity mainly due to the interpretation of the bible (the genuine cases). First of all it is important for us to understand the place of the bible in Christianity before we can properly apply it to Christian spirituality. This article seeks to use the dealings of God with his people Israel, the dealings of Jesus and the apostles with the early Christians, the bible itself and common sense to... Read more>>>
