TODAY'S REFLECTION - TUESDAY, 8TH WEEK - ORDINARY TIME
St. Cyril, martyr
1 Peter 1:10-16/ Psalm 97:1-4/ Mark 10:28-31
MAKE [JESUS] THE CENTRE OF YOUR LIFE
Beloved, St. Peter in our today's first reading draws our attention to the role the prophets of old played to help others to do the will of God. This is a wake up call for us to play our prophetic role as expected. He also touched on the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives. We are encouraged to be holy as God is holy. Let us make efforts to follow the path of holiness.
Friends, after the rich young man left Jesus' presence sadly in our yesterday's Gospel reading, Jesus did not call him back. In our today's Gospel reading, Peter wants to know what those who have left everything and are following Jesus would get. Jesus said - not without persecution - now in this present time and in the world to come, they will be repaid a hundred times over whatever they have left, including eternal life. This is not a political campaign message or any business enticement. Jesus offered himself, was persecuted, shed his own blood; all for our sake. Jesus, the Lamb of God, died to take away our sins. However, the tendency to sin in us is still with us. He encourages us to sacrifice or give up our vices: pride, impatience, jealousy, hatred, etc in order to get eternal life. We should be able to say with St. Paul, "Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ the Lord." If we truly possess Jesus Christ, nothing else seem to count. We should not be afraid to offer to Jesus our joys/sorrows, hopes/disappointments, successes/failures, etc. Let us pray for the grace to strive to follow the path of holiness. We also pray that whatever we sacrifice/give up in Jesus name, we may be rewarded accordingly. BE BLESSED.
