True wisdom

True wisdom comes to each of us when we realize how little we understand about life, ourselves, and the world around us. Socrates

He that is evil is a slave

He that is kind is free, though he is a slave; he that is evil is a slave, though he be a king. Saint Augustine

Faith

Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe. Saint Augustine

Touch the dying

Let us touch the dying, the poor, the lonely and the unwanted according to the graces we have received and let us not be ashamed or slow to do the humble work. Mother Teresa

Worth of the bible

A thorough knowledge of the Bible is worth more than a college education. Theodore Roosevelt

if you love until it hurts

I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love. Mother Teresa

The shelter of compassion and pity

If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men. Francis of Assisi

Fear vs reverence

Where there is reverence there is fear, but there is not reverence everywhere that there is fear, because fear presumably has a wider extension than reverence. Socrates

Selective faith

If you believe what you like in the gospels, and reject what you don't like, it is not the gospel you believe, but yourself. Saint Augustine

Our walking is our preaching

It is no use walking anywhere to preach unless our walking is our preaching. Francis of Assisi

Perfection of a man

This is the very perfection of a man, to find out his own imperfections. Saint Augustine

We must be hatched

It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad. C. S. Lewis

As we are, such are the times

If we live good lives, the times are also good. As we are, such are the times. Saint Augustine

Source of the deadliest hate

From the deepest desires often come the deadliest hate. Socrates

The desire is thy prayers

The desire is thy prayers; and if thy desire is without ceasing, thy prayer will also be without ceasing. The continuance of your longing is the continuance of your prayer. Saint Augustine

A simple smile

We shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do. Mother Teresa

A drop in the ocean

We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop. Mother Teresa

Raise funds of love

Let us more and more insist on raising funds of love, of kindness, of understanding, of peace. Money will come if we seek first the Kingdom of God - the rest will be given. Mother Teresa

He will not save us without our consent

He who created us without our help will not save us without our consent. Saint Augustine

Seek to love, not to be loved

Lord, grant that I might not so much seek to be loved as to love. Francis of Assisi

TODAY'S REFLECTION - SOLEMNITY OF THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD
Acts 1:1-11/Ps 46:2,6-9/Eph1:17-23/Mk16:15-20

JESUS AWAITS US IN HEAVEN
Beloved, Holy Mother Church celebrates today, the solemnity of the ascension of the Lord. It is a day we remember Jesus' joyfully going back to heaven to share in his Father's glory, after he fulfilled his mission on earth. We also think of Enoch, who walked with God, then was no more, because God took him (Genesis 5:24). We also remember Elijah, who went up to heaven in the whirlwind (2 Kings 2:9-13). In our today's first reading, we are told how Jesus ascended in the presence of the eleven apostles. This calls to mind our own experiences of bidding our dear ones farewell. Be it at the burial or when traveling. The separation is painful. We can't sit or stand there gazing or weeping or lamenting. We are to go back and continue with our daily tasks until our end also comes. Jesus' ascension gives us the hope of reuniting in a more joyful manner.

In our today's second reading, St. Paul prays that God should give us the Spirit of Wisdom to know Jesus more and more. Also, that He may open our eyes and give us more hope. We can also add all that we want the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, to give us.

Friends, when Jesus resurrected and appeared to his disciples, he commissioned them, to go out to the whole world; proclaim the Good News to all creation ( Mark16:15ff, Matthew 28:19-20). Since Easter, 1st April, until now, have I done what Jesus asked me to do? He is ascending to his Father today and is repeating the same mandate. Will I do it? How? When? After Jesus' resurrection, he stayed with us for forty days. In ten days time, he, together with his Father, will send us the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. How do we prepare for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit? Will I have a Pentecost novena? Have I made up my mind that Jesus has completely disappeared in my life? What about his presence in the Sacraments, the Scriptures and our togetherness? Let us pray for the Spirit of love and unity among us so that we can indeed go out and proclaim the Good News to all creation, more credibly, in what we do and say. BE BLESSED.

Do I Need to Forgive Others to be Forgiv…

Dear ..., I hope this writeup meets you in good spirits. Unfortunately, we couldn’t complete the discussion we started, so I decided to put my thoughts together in this writeup for you to study. I hope you read this writeup with an open mind. I referred to Matthew 5:21-24, 38-48, Matthew 6:14,15 and Matthew 18:21ff to make the point that unforgiveness is one of the gravest sins, because it actually prevents your other sins from being forgiven. You challenged that a Christian can’t... Read more>>>

Respect dignities

When we despise dominion and speak evil of dignities we break the divine pattern and bring a tide of curse upon ourselves and those under our care. As those under our authority behold how we treat those in authority over us, they will become fuelled by the same spirit and start to treat us in a similar manner. Once this spirit enters into a community, that community will burst apart at some point fracturing along personality lines. This is the... Read more>>>

When God decides: authority of God

Exhortation during three days fasting and prayers: 28th–30th January, 2009Teacher: Felix Dordaa Mahama Text: {bib=Matthew 20:1-16} When God decides, no one can stand in His way. The message in the above title is what today’s text has presented to us. Jesus has likened the kingdom of heaven (i.e., the operation of God) to the farmer who has hired workers to work in his vineyard. The vineyard owner chose to pay the latecomers as much as he had paid the early comers, and this... Read more>>>

Wrong moral living or wrong moral teachi…

Difference between wrong moral living and wrong moral teachings Some people confuse the two concepts of wrong moral living and wrong moral teaching. If we study scripture carefully, we will realize that right from the beginning God has condemned both wrong moral living and wrong moral teaching. However, we also realized that even so, there has been no period in history when the world has been completely rid of evil or wrong moral living. Abraham, for instance, could not wait patiently for... Read more>>>

The art of quiet time: prayer

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, I greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. May the grace and peace of God be in your heart. ({bib=Luke 22:43}) Importance of prayer Dear friends, prayer... Read more>>>

Who pushed me?

A wealthy man had only one daughter. When the daughter was of marriage age, the father sent news around town that all the eligible young men should come to compete in a test which would determine who was fit to marry his daughter. On the set day, all able-bodied young men came out. Some came with paper and pen and others with cutlasses and swords. The rich man took them to his swimming pool and addressed them:“Any of you who can swim from... Read more>>>

Teacher: Felix Dordaa Mahama Text: {bib=Judith 5:17-21} What if I were God? Would I be able to forgive the many wrongs that people do, even after they confess? In fact prayer is the meeting point between divinity and... Read more>>>

Do miracles still happen in the Catholic…

The answer to the question of whether miracles still happen in the Catholic Church has always raised follow-up questions in my mind. Yes, I know that miracles still happen in the Catholic Church, but if so why are so many Catholics still into idolatry, consulting gods and mallams everywhere at the sight of any small problem? Why do many Catholics not hear about these miracles? How important are miracles in the Catholic Church and in our relationship with God? I believe that... Read more>>>

Pursue Your Strengths
