TODAY'S REFLECTION- THE FEAST OF ST. MARK THE EVANGELIST
1 Peter 5: 5b- 14 / Psalm 88:2-3,6-7,16-17 / Mark 16;15-20
GO OUT TO THE WHOLE WORLD; PROCLAIM THE GOSPEL TO ALL
Beloved, St. Mark, a cousin of Barnabas, followed St. Paul and Barnabas to Antioch on their first missionary journey to Cyprus. He later separated himself and went back to Jerusalem. He was also a disciple of St. Peter. St. Mark did his part by making efforts to go out to evangelise through preaching and writing. What about us?
St. Peter in our today's first reading advised us to be humble, sober, alert/watchful and firm in faith, so that, our enemy the devil, does not devour or destroy us. Are we aware that day in and day out, the devil seeks to destroy us? Let us stand firm.
Friends, Jesus in our today's Gospel reading continues to remind us of our task to go out and spread the Good News. We can spread the Good News through preaching, writing, giving out any material support, praying for those who are out there spreading the Good News, etc. It is a shared or collective responsibility. Jesus assures us of his perpetual/constant presence with us. If Jesus is with us and for us, who can be against us/overpower us? The presence of Jesus can neutralise what may look like taking poison, the bite of a snake, the sting of a scorpion etc. Again for our assurance, with Christ by our side, nothing can harm us. Even if God allows our physical bodies to be touched as we go out to spread the Good news in any way, but we should be assured of heavenly reward. Let us pray for the grace to do our part or contribute our quota in whichever way possible to assist in the spread of the Good News. May we also pray for the grace to be free from any harm as we embark upon the evangelising mission of Jesus Christ. BE BLESSED.
